Custom Domain as Affiliate Strategy

There are affiliates that bring in $100k+ in revenue for a particular SaaS.

And there are others who blow up a consumer product on TikTok (or other channels) to make millions without ever having to sell the product.

If you are constantly promoting a particular affiliate that pays you insane money, then it makes sense to buy a custom domain for it.

Edward Sturm bought reusevideo.com to promote repurpose.io.

Now think which domain is the better one?

Repurpose or Reuse Video?

Obviously, the latter one is clear.

You need clear over smart. Repurpose is smart but Reuse Video is clear.

So now when Edward makes TikTok videos, he just says reusevideo.com and it redirects to https://repurpose.io/?aff=41925 which is Edward's affiliate code.

He goes viral often on TikTok and has already brought the parent company 10s of thousands in monthly recurring revenue.

The benefit of this is two-fold:

1. He doesn't have to spell the entire url on his TikTok video or caption it or say link in description either.

2. When someone else sees his videos and remembers the url, they directly write reusevideo. Not everyone knows that its a redirect to another SaaS. This might happen less often but if another influencer uses it by chance, Edward makes a lot of money.

This isn't the only scenario where it works.

Damon Cheng bought 2 typo domains and it brought him $100,000 in ARR.

For context, his main site is testimonial.to but influencers were misspelling it with testimonial.io and testimonials.to so he bought the typo domains, became his own affiliate, and redirected them to his main site.

A smart affiliate could've bought these 2 domains and made a lot of money for no work.

This is the power of good domains.

This video shows you The Hidden Gold Mines on The Internet that make you Money.

This channel is extremely underrated.

One hack to know if the video is actually good is to read the comment section.

If its extremely positive, you can bet that the content is good. It shouldn't be generic praise though.

I always use this trick before watching any video and it never has disappointed me but I also try and skim the video first to see if its anything new or just generic stuff most influencers produce.

Note that this can be easily gamed with AI but I haven't found it happen yet.

When you think you've done enough, you haven't.

Volume is always the answer.

Every agency owner thinks just because they did 500 DMs, they have done enough volume.

But they don't know the experts do 500 DMs per day per account and they have 10 accounts.

You will get more conversions if you play the volume game. You can have a hideous pitch and it'll still convert.

Ofc if it doesn't convert, then improve your pitch. But think of whatever you are doing, then do it 10x more.

That's the easy way to win.

2. Free Idea - A free idea that is easy to build with one-time fee. The target audience for this is poor but I think the demand will be higher as AI takes away jobs. Hopium always sells.

3. Easy ways to get great subject matter - Ever thought of using all the AI bots as a personal recommendation engine? Yeah, me neither. Edward tells you exactly how you can do that. I have never seen anyone else using XAI as a recommendation engine like he did. Great way to find experts.

These 3 things are what makes YouTube work and directly impact revenue.

It makes sense to pay them if you want to YouTube to be your channel for growth because the future is video. You can see how all Social Media platform prioritize video now in 2024.

Here's how I'd grow this:

1. Use The Permissionless Apprenticeship strategy on Bigger Channels by sending them free titles and thumbnails improvement. If its better than their current strategy, they can A/B test and hire you.

2. Scrape YouTubers Emails. YouTube makes it extremely hard to scrape emails but most creators who use YouTube are on different platforms like Instagram Reels, Snapchat, TikTok. Use those to get their real emails. Since you only need to target medium to big influencers, you can easily find them trying to build their audience on other socials. Then cold email like crazy. Remember, volume is key but only if you can handle the bandwidth.

3. Use YTJobs to find YouTubers who are already looking for Thumbnail Designers. You can build Upwork and Fiverr profiles as well to pitch your service. Definitely against TOS as these platforms ban you if you ask to message on other platforms but you can find ways to get away with it online. Not everyone on Upwork and Fiverr is looking for cheap work.
