Power of Good Domains
Entrepreneurs underestimate the power of Good Domain.
But a good domain has a brand recall value.
And customers can easily remember it.
So when they tell their friends about the domain, they type it correctly instead of mistyping it.
And typos can be costly.
Ask Damon Chen who spent $35,000 on a domain because a viral tweet misspelled his domain.
But this is not all.
Even his own customers misspelled his domain.
Admittedly, it was hard to type as it was called testimonial.to with a t but customers thought it was i so they typed testimonial.io every single time.
So he bought all related domains to his niche:
There is an entire market of domain hoarders who buy domains for $10k and resell them for $48k
Memorable domain names can be a marketing strategy.
You can easily leverage domain names to drive word-of-mouth and social mentions.
Every big company knows this so they either start with a good domain or later buy good domain names for expensive prices.
I love to invest in some good domains, domain that is easy to read and share.
I don't think looseleaf.ai will soar under its original name. hits the mark perfectly - 'looseleaf' may not be globally understood, but 'PDF' definitely is ✌️

Damon bought a company looseleaf.ai for $20k.
Two of my best investments so far:
1. $2k to start Testimonial.to
2. $20k to acquire PDF.ai (formerly looseleaf.ai)Invest in yourself 👊

But he turned it around quickly by buying a good domain name pdf.ai.
His competitors can't compete with him if he does everything they do.
His advantage? A short and memorable domain.
A few examples:
milliondollarhomepage.com - Page has something to do with Million Dollars
calm.com - Makes you calm which is appropriate for a meditation app. The founder previously made Million Dollar Homepage
uber.com - Extremely memorable to remember so you can use it as a noun just like Let's Uber
duolingo.com - Duo means two and Lingo means language. A person who knows two or more languages is an appropriate domain for a language learning app.
canva.com - Has something to do with Canvas
veed.io - Reads as Video
nomadlist.com - List for Digital Nomads
remoteok.com - Site for Remote Work
copy.ai - Use Copy and AI
photoai.com - Site to take Photos with AI
headshotpro.com - Site that takes Headshots
sheet2site.com - Converts Sheets to Sites
1800d2c.com - 1-800 stands for Toll Free Call & D2C stands for D2C brands.
builtwith.com - What a site is built with
testimonial.to - Site that collects Testimonial
paypal.com - Pay a Pal
chat.com - Something to do with Chat
connect.com - Site that Connects Stuff
convert.com - Site that Converts Stuff
esignature.com - Digital Signature
meetup.com - Something about Meeting
wordle.com - Something about Word
wordplay.com - Play with Words (This was a Wordle Clone on Web that got 16 million users with 150 million games played)
morningbrew.com - Morning x Coffee
startupspells.com - Something to do with Startup and Magical Spells like Harry Potter. That's why I chose it.
Look at what a billionaire says about the power of good domains. It is an expensive hobby if you want to buy 1 or 2-word domains.
chat.com bought for >$10m.
connect.com → $10m.
→ $100k.
esignature.com → $50k.good domain names matter.
it does get easy to buy them if you are a billionaire though.

Think of any site you use today. You'll find countless examples of good domain names.
Domain Squatters take up most good domains but you can still find good and memorable ones.
Use these tips to find a good domain name because it matters.
choosing names that aren't ridiculously pricey is hard.
my 21 rules to find good names:
1. dot com is a must
2. less characters (typically 6-10)
3. made up words (spanx, blox)
4. animal as a prefix/suffix (splitbee, bannerbear, sharktank, beartax)— Startup Spells 🪄 Growth Hacks (@StartupSpells)

No, seriously it does make a difference. Even typo domains bring in revenue.
This is crazy! These two typo domains (testimonial.io and testimonials.to) have brought in $100k+ revenue so far. The best part? I don't need to pay any commission to these two of my best 'affiliates' ✌️

Copy AI founder knows this.
Their domain was so easy to type that any influencer making TikTok for them could say it easily and the audience could tell what the product was all about.
That's when you know you have a good domain name.

One video to get you all fired up to start your day.
Art Williams delivered a speech in 1987 and it still slaps while making you laugh.
You can learn all the principles of storytelling in this speech even if it’s a very unusual speech.
He gives the essential ingredient to winning in business.
If you are slacking about doing things you don't wanna do, just watch it so you too can do it.
Tweet of the day
When choosing your brand name, try to keep it under 4 syllables.
The shorter name is easier to remember and incorporate into a logo.
It’s why Federal Express changed their name to FedEx back in January 2000.
Just think of some of the most iconic brands…
Tesla, Nike, Pepsi,… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

The more memorable the domain name, the easier it becomes to type and remember.
And the easier it is to build a brand.
Think Tesla, Nike, Apple, Google, Ola, Uber, TikTok.
There is a reason Morning Brew changed their previous domain name Market Corner.
While Market Corner is good, Morning Brew is more memorable.
Rabbit Holes
Reddit founders made hundreds of fake profiles so site looked popular - Fake profiles are what runs Social Media otherwise it would be a dead town. Bots mostly run dating apps.
Internal Facebook Note: Here Is A “Psychological Trick” To Target Teens - The World's Best Minds are using psychological tactics to trick you to do stuff. This is one clever example.
Referral Programs: Goals, Dual-Rewards, Niche Sites - Referral Programs are underrated. Most people don't give better incentives for others to refer. This one trick can catapult your business and take it to whole another level.
Startup of the day
🧠 TherapistAI.com now runs on Llama3-70B
It's WAY better than Mixtral which is what I was running it on before, and it's now almost as good as GPT4 according to the benchmarks, but in my experience it's even better for therapy
Now with Llama3-70B:

Therapist AI is a Startup using LLMs (like Llama 3) to act as a Therapist for Cheap.
Genius idea for 2 reasons:
Extremely controversial - All the people dunking on it give it more engagement. Bad PR is still good. It even crossed $2k MRR. Someone will feature it as a PR piece because it’s such a controversial idea to people who love Therapists.
Telegram bot - The website just redirects to a Telegram bot. Midjourney crossed $100m just from Discord before the web app even launched. This one has massive potential to go viral for all the wrong reasons which can be good for business. This belongs in AI Girlfriend niche where people form parasocial relationships with AI.
