YouTube Chapter SEO: Timestamping for Better Search Rankings
I recently learned about an intriguing discovery while searching "perplexity ai" on YouTube.
Perplexity AI - YouTube Shorts ranking #3
The YouTube Short ranking #3 has the target keyword at the beginning of the title.
This alone makes it rank #3. Other shorts ranking #1, #2, and #4 have many thousand views.
It is probably the easiest hack to perform if you have a YouTube channel.
But this isn't the secret discovery.
The real discovery happens when you click on Filters and select the following parameters:
SORT BY: View Count
TYPE: Video
UPLOAD DATE: This week
YouTube Filters
When you properly tag your YouTube videos and include highly relevant, perfect responses to specific search terms, you can make your video start at a precise timestamp. In this case, the video starts at 6:11 by default.
YouTube Video Timestamped with "Perplexity"
This timestamped midroll can rank in the YouTube search algorithm, driving targeted traffic to the exact moment in your video that addresses the user's query.
For example, when I clicked on the timestamped result for "perplexity ai" it took me directly to the relevant section of the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJYBCKcb5z8&t=371s
Interestingly, it even ranks a Japanese video at #2 since it mentions "perplexity" in the chapter section.

In short, properly tag your YouTube videos and provide highly relevant content that perfectly addresses specific search queries.
This little hack improves your YouTube search rankings, drives more targeted traffic, and enhances the user experience by delivering the exact information they're seeking.
Credits to my smart friend who discovered this hack.

Looks like Google’s ‘Short Videos’ tab has returned, featuring content from TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram & more. With the recent global launch of the ‘Web’ filter, I wouldn’t be surprised if this starts showing for all users by default.

YouTube's monetization policies led to longer videos.
TikTok's competition pushed creators towards short-form content.
Now, all platforms prioritize high-quality short videos because consumers want quick answers.
