Steph Smith's Genius Trick To Funnel Traffic From Marketplaces

Steph Smith sells a product called Internet Pipes for $500 on Gumroad. However, she encourages buyers to purchase it from Lemonsqueezy instead, where it's $100 cheaper. This simple yet effective strategy directs buyers to the more affordable option, giving them a reason to switch.

Steph's method cleverly funnels traffic from Gumroad to Lemonsqueezy by offering a lower price. Customers are always looking for a better deal, and by highlighting the savings, she's able to persuade buyers to opt for the cheaper site.

In the past, Gumroad was the more affordable option for large creators, while Lemonsqueezy charged more. But after Gumroad increased its fees to 10%, compared to Lemonsqueezy's 5%, Steph adjusted her approach to take advantage of the pricing change.

You can use a similar approach to redirect traffic from online marketplaces to your website:

  1. List your product on various online marketplaces like Whop, Skool, Stan Store, and Etsy. These platforms have large amounts of traffic, increasing the visibility of your product.

  2. Optimize your listings for each marketplace's search engine. Use their algorithms to rank higher in search results. For example, follow this guide for Gumroad. A good tactic is to recreate popular listings by visiting Trending lists, as many people buy multiple versions of the same product.

  3. Once your product ranks well in the marketplace's search results, you'll start getting free traffic. Do this for as many platforms as possible to maximize exposure.

  4. Include a call to action (CTA) in your listings, directing customers to your website where they can buy the product for a lower price. Make sure the CTA clearly highlights the price difference, so customers feel incentivized to choose your site.

People constantly search for specific products on marketplaces. By optimizing your listings and highlighting a better deal on your website, you can easily convert this traffic into sales.
