Perplexity's Monday Night Football Ad
Perplexity recently aired a standout ad during Monday Night Football featuring Jim Harbaugh, a famous football coach. It was a masterclass in advertising.
1. Strategic Timing and Placement
The ad aired during the season opener of Monday Night Football, a game with some of the highest viewership of the year.
Fans were already engaged as it was the first match, making it the perfect time to grab attention.
2. Celebrity Endorsement
Jim Harbaugh’s appearance was an instant attention-grabber as he is a popular figure in the football community.
In the ad, Harbaugh answered a variety of questions, mimicking a real press conference.
This seamless integration made it feel less like an ad and more like a natural part of the event. Perplexity logos placed in the background were the icing on the cake.

3. Clever Visual Metaphor
The highlight of the ad was when Harbaugh took a sip from a Perplexity-branded water bottle.

Psyop “2k/mo chatgpt”
Then launch 500/mo plan, seems cheap in comparison
And if I’m honest, I’ll pay 500/mo too

Journalists and Founders work with each other. Its a mutually beneficial relationship.
Founders get to shape their own narrative while journalists get exclusive leaks.

I've had access to @OpenAI's o1 for several weeks. My advice on using it:
1. Don’t think of it like a traditional chat model. Frame o1 in your mind as a really smart friend you’re going to send a DM to solve a problem. She’ll answer back with a very well thought out explanation… x.com/i/web/status/1…

OpenAI o1 has strict usage limits. Use GPT-4o to generate prompts more efficiently so you can then pass them onto o1. This is much like creating SOPs for junior-level employees so they can follow it to the "t".

I met two d2c brands doing 6 crore per month recently without vc funding and both have one thing in common. They sell products at a lower value. It looks like a steal. Their products as per me might not be “great” quality but in the end consumer decides that.

Most products are mediocre. They just do a lot of volume to make up for it. Ship your mediocre products.
Rabbit Holes
80/20 Marketing – what's crushing it right now - Old article but with AI taking over, algorithms will only get more smarter: "Humans can look at hundreds of buyer signals, like age, gender, location, and keywords. Machines can look at over 300M: purchases, searches, videos, time, apps, buying habits, and more."
What China, Marvel, and Avatar Tell Us About the Future of Blockbuster Franchises - China’s influence on Hollywood is undeniable. No wonder everyone from John Cena to Gigi Hadid have to apologize to China to please the CCP so their movies can be greenlit in China.
The ROI on Generative AI - "Klarna's AI assistant now performs the work of 700 employees, reducing the average resolution time from 11 minutes to just 2, while maintaining the same customer satisfaction scores as human agents." AI is coming for all jobs from coding, design, music, customer support, call centre, and many more. Brace yourself and upskill if you haven't already.
Until next time,
