Shopify Micro-SaaS: 0 to $25k MRR and 20k users in 14 months

Marketing+Support on WhatsApp by Superlemon is a Shopify Micro-SaaS app that went from 0 to $25k MRR in just 14 months. They have 20k users using the app & 1500+ paying customers.

1. Focus on the product, not distribution

The best part about building on top of a marketplace is you don't have to worry about distribution.

The marketplace ideally takes care of it if you actual solve a real problem.

They feature you in their featured section if you build a good app so you get a steady stream of customers if you focus on doing only one simple thing.

2. Solve a real pain point

This Shopify App allowed Shopify Merchants to send abandoned cart reminders & order updates via automated WhatsApp messages. You could provide support through WhatsApp.

WhatsApp has a massive user-base in countries like India, Brazil, US, Indonesia, and Mexico.

Whatsapp Users by Country 2024

Pro-Tip: Messaging app or SMS has the highest open rates of them all. Much higher than email.

So if you send customers of your e-commerce store a Whatsapp message, they will 100% read it. This is great for getting feedback on your app or pricing and talking to your customers without having to jump on a call.

3. Extremely fast customer support

If you reply to your customers query within 5 minutes, you offer a WOW moment to them.

I was talking to a service provider recently via Telegram and he instantly replied to my queries within 5 minutes.

You can guess I was super impressed with the fast support times.

They did the same and got soaring 5 star-reviews.

They've since sold the app and the reviews have tanked to 3.6 stars but you can still see the 813 ratings they have are 5-star ratings.

Proactively listening to customer feedback and giving them fast response triggers a reciprocity principle.

4. Solve common issues via FAQ

When you have fast customer support, you tend to ask questions directly to support instead of trying out on your own.

I do this all the time while using Beehiiv when I don't understand a feature.

To avoid constant support requests, they have created a huge library of tutorials, videos, and FAQ pages explaining every single feature. And they have managed to make email sending a hassle from in app. If it was easy, too many people would send emails. I dread going to Beehiiv to send emails. There is a reason I've only sent them 2-3 emails when I already had like 10-20 questions.

Its a good way to reduce simple support questions at scale when it could be answered by a little Googling.

Superlemon did the same by embedding FAQs within the product itself.

5. Build In Public Nightmare

In Marketplaces, copycats happen quickly once they realize a product is doing well.

If you talk about it in public and toot your own horn, expect to be copied like crazy.

Superlemon team did just that and their competitors lapped them while manipulating Shopify rankings through fake review system.

For a long time, Superlemon team was ranking #1 for "Whatsapp Chat" but they lost it to a Blackhat competitor.

Now they are nowhere to be seen for that term. They are way down below. As you can see the number of competitors that popped up due to building in public.

When you are printing money, don't tell a soul. Simply write a private journal.

Hat Tip to Preetam Nath for sharing his journey. Highly recommend reading it if you are building on top of a marketplace.

A marketplace of World's Cheapest & Best SMM Panel

NLO SMM Panel is a marketplace to get fake followers and likes on your products.

Now there are pure whitehat people who hate this kind of stuff but sadly, people have herd mentality.

If you want to get attention, get some engagement on your posts. Once you've built up enough real following, you can stop the whole shenanigans but initially at the start, you can ramp up a little engagement. Don't go too high or it will look fake and the algorithm will suppress you.

Reminder, Amazon Brands are using fake reviews to get the initial engagement going so people give them a chance.

This video is extremely long but it covers the lead generation strategy to go from 0 - $900k per month.

This is a gem of a channel I stumbled upon through another YouTube video's frame & I struck gold.

The entire channel is filled with non-generic positive comments.

To find golden YouTube video, read the comments. If the comments are hyper-specifically positive, not generic positive, you can assume the video is gold. Never seen an epic video fail this simple test.

Top Tweets of the day

1/

Blog comments work if its relevant. Commenting on other people's social media accounts work. You don't need to link your comments there because its the quickest ways to get blocked so just write quality tweets again & again so people follow you.

Simple tips for landing page copy.

Rabbit Holes

  1. Play Bigger (Notes) - If you want to create a category of one, read the book "Play Bigger." This is how Apple, Tesla, Louis Vuitton charge outrageous prices. "Before Uber, we hailed a cab by standing perilously close to traffic with an arm in the air. After Uber, that just seemed dumb."

  2. Programmatic SEO Examples - The fastest way to get a lot of traffic is through SEO, specifically Programmatic SEO. This contains all kinds of big examples of Programmatic SEO. Its a meta post which means it shows successful Programmatic SEO using Programmatic SEO.

  3. How to see competitors facebook ads - You can copy your competition's strategies by reverse-engineering their FB Ads & Angles. The ad running the longest is the one that's working.
