Gary Vee's $1.80 Comment Strategy
The $1.80 strategy is a simple yet effective way to grow your presence on social media.
The concept involves leaving thoughtful comments (your "two cents") on the top 9 posts for 10 different accounts (or hashtags) in your field each day.
STEP 1: Find Relevant Posts in your niche
You can find relevant posts in your niche by searching for hashtags, accounts, or keywords.
Start by identifying 10 key hashtags or accounts related to your business. For example, if you're building a SaaS for AI video tools, you might consider these hashtags:
#ai (24.9M posts)
#aitool
#aivideos
#aivideotools
#videoeditor
#texttovideo
#aiart
#ainews
#aiartcommunity
#tech
Alternatively, you can search for keywords or accounts in your niche.
Pro tip: You can search for related hashtags as you search on Instagram. Look for both popular and niche-specific tags that align with your AI Videos SaaS. Likewise, X shows related accounts to follow and posts from similar accounts just below replies.
STEP 2: Engage Meaningfully with Top Posts / Creators
Once you have your hashtags or accounts, review the top 9 posts for each one:
Spend about 2 minutes per post engaging with a like, comment, or share.
Look for posts with good engagement, such as active comment sections and meaningful discussions.
You want to find influencers who have built a community around them so you can take some of their audience with you.
Engagement indicators include:
A high like-to-follower ratio.
Conversations in the comments (avoid posts with just one-word comments).
STEP 3: Make Your Comments Count
Your comments should add value to the conversation. You can:
Answer questions.
Share your expertise.
Compliment something specific about the post.
Aim to engage with 90 pieces of content daily, leaving 90 thoughtful comments across the top 9 posts of 10 different hashtags or accounts.
All it requires is 3 hours of focused interaction per day.
The math checks out: $0.02 (your comment) × 9 posts × 10 hashtags = $1.80 in daily social investment.
Though this strategy requires time upfront, it becomes easier as your follower count grows.
It is one of the fastest ways to build influence on social media, straight from someone who knows how to do it best.

You can't get lucky so many times. Elon Musk needs to be studied deeply.
One marketing trick from Elon Musk is how he makes everything about saving humanity.
Tesla: Use electric vehicles to tackle climate change
SpaceX: Make humans multi-planetary by colonizing Mars
Politics: Protect free speech

If you 80/20 enough times..
you'll get to a shortlist of 1-3 core actions that matter 99.9%+ more than doing ANYTHING else..
and when you focus on those & those only w/ ALL of the power you have..
you win BIG TIME.

There's very few levers that affect your outcome. Find those and hammer on them. Only way to find them is explore & exploit.
Real-world examples:
SEO for a newer SaaS: Focus on money keywords or bottom of funnel keywords
Building X account fast from scratch: - Reply guy'ing and getting reposts from influencers
Ship 10 SaaS in 1 month for clients: - Using boilerplates, design systems, and AI to speedrun through the process

Remember that guy who got rich dropshipping, day trading, buying crypto, and wholesaling at the same time?
Me neither.
Focus.

Every successful entrepreneur probably has 1000s of ideas. But they only focus on a few. The secret to win is focus on the opportunity at hand.
