CTR Manipulation

CTR (Click-Through Rate) Manipulation is a technique where you drive traffic to your keywords on Google and then get people to click on it and stay on page for a long-period of time.

This signals Google that your website has valuable stuff.

Now, you can use it in a blackhat way to derank your competitors. You can send traffic to your competitors website and then get people to click on it but make them go back immediately so Google deranks it.

This trick signals the Algorithm to rank you higher and derank your competition.

After all, the good articles and good videos increase the dwell time. For context, dwell time is the amount of time users spend on a page from the search results before returning to the search engine results page (SERP).

That's why you see big YouTubers like Mr.Beast use this tactic to get people to give the initial signal to the algorithm using tactics like this.

Notice how he never links to his video because it is a deranking factor.

If you link directly to the video and people click on it from other places, it is considered botting.

This trick might have worked early on but YouTube has probably figured it out by now.

But botting can still be done using Robotic Process Automation where you use a browser like Puppeteer and automate human activities.

For example, you can have 100s of farms like the ones they have in China for TikTok, and use those farms to programmatically search for keyword like Mr.Beast, click on his channel, go to the videos tab and watch the whole video in full screen.

This isn't technically hard to implement. You only need real-estate and cheap workers. That's why China, India, and other 3rd-world countries are the places where the farms appear.

And future innovations in Robotics and AI will make this kind of manipulation 100% easier.

Direct linking to the post is 100% confirmed on sites like Hacker News that has an incredible algorithm and little to no spam.

If you send a direct link of your post on Hacker News to your friends to upvote it, it is 100% getting deranked. That's why the smart ones do it like Mr.Beast by giving instructions so you can upvote it by actually stumbling upon it, thereby, mimicking real user behavior.
