Businesses are Positive Sum Games

Lots of Entrepreneurs and VCs hate seeing their businesses getting copied because they know their market share will shrink if someone enters their market.

But they hate it for all the wrong reasons. Their incentives are to see themselves succeed so they keep their ideas to themselves to profit it all.

But I'm here to tell you its okay to copy.

All ideas are a remix anyways.

Businesses are not Zero Sum Games. It may seem like they are but 99% of the times, they are not.

Both Uber and Ola can co-exist.

And it is the same with Whatsapp and Telegram.

When AI got decent enough, lots of generative AI companies launched.

Two of them were at the forefront of it.

One was Jasper AI and the other was Copy AI.

They both did well.

Jasper AI did $72M ARR in 2022 while Copy AI did $10M ARR in 2022.

They have already made their founders $100M+ in revenue. Probably $10M+ in profit at the very least.

Right now, all the big 5 companies (FAANG) are battling it out with their own version of AI Bots.

Open AI has ChatGPT.

Anthropic has Claude.

Microsoft has Copilot.

Meta has Meta AI.

Google has Gemini.

XAI has Grok.

Some of them will win big. Most of them will still have an audience.

Remember, Bing Search still makes $7 billion per year even though I don't know anyone using it.

How you can use this?

When a startup is exploding right in front of your eyes, you can literally clone it 1:1 and tweak the positioning to make a lot of money.

This works for marketing strategies as well. Make sure not to make it an obvious copy. An obvious copy will still make money if you market it to a different audience.

Read the book Steal Like An Artist to know how to clone without making it look like a 1:1 copy. All the great film directors like Quentin Tarantino copy other directors’ work while adding their own flavor to it.

"If you have one person you're influenced by, everyone will say you're the next whoever. But if you rip off a hundred people, everyone will say you're so original!"

~ Austin Kleon

A tool to Use Multiple Accounts on Social Media

IXBrowser is an anti-detect browser.

It means you can use multiple accounts using proxies to look like you are operating from different locations.

Great way to talk to yourself on social media without looking like a weirdo.

Just kidding.

You can use it to boost your posts, give them a lot of engagement, send 100s of DMs per day from different accounts.

Social Media has limits on how many DMs you can send per account. For example, X currently limits at 500 DMs per day per account.

Use 10 accounts and you can essentially send 5000 DMs per day. It costs $187 per month to send 150,000 DMs per month. Wild, isn't it?

Old but gold. This video teaches you how to build Quora Backlinks.

Quora still has some juice but you can target other UGC platforms like Reddit to get more juice.

However, the lessons in this 3-minute video can be transferred over to other social platforms.

Tweet of the day

TikTok Shops are wild.

You can make a lot of money by being a creator selling on TikTok Shop right now.

Rabbit Holes

  1. Cody Schneider's Guide to Mastering Content Distribution - The hacks described in this video are wild. A young engineer created a script to automatically schedule meetings with potential clients using publicly available Calendly links. Nobody remembers if they have actually scheduled a meeting but its a great way to social engineer.

  2. Positioning - Best article on Positioning on the internet. Once you learn this, you can go from making $0 to millions in an instant. Sometimes the idea, the timing, the copy is correct but the positioning is wrong. Read it so you don't have to suffer.

  3. Jenni AI: the $5M/year Chegg of generative AI - Sacra does incredible research. This one covers the AI startup Jenni and how it positioned against Jasper AI and Copy AI. Remember, Businesses are Postive Sum Games. You can win too if you position your business to a different niche.

Startup of the day

Bathroom App that helps you find bathrooms near you.

This startup solves an actual problem. I'm surprised this doesn't exist yet.

Here's how I'd grow this:

  1. Use Google Maps to find out Bathrooms in a City. Then add them to the database. Plot the data to go viral on /r/DataIsBeautiful and /r/InternetIsBeautiful by plotting number of bathrooms per state. A viral post example: Swear words in Taylor Swift albums

  2. Do Programmatic SEO like Nomadlist on long-tail keywords so you can target by State or City.

  3. Use Semrush/Ahrefs to target key phrases like "bathrooms in nyc", "nyc bathroom app" and others to help with SEO.

  4. Make an app and rank via ASO to rank for similar terms. You can build 10 related apps to promote the main app. This works similar to Programming as Marketing strategy.
