Translate Mom is a service that dubs, captions, and translates videos and audio into multiple languages.

Its clever marketing strategy includes a growth hack designed specifically for X (formerly Twitter).

How the Growth Hack Works

When a video goes viral on X, users can tag @TranslateMom in the comments. The service then translates the video into other languages and shares the translated version with the user.

This creates a loop where translated content introduces the platform to new audiences. For example, a viral English video might be translated into Spanish, making it accessible to millions of Spanish speakers worldwide.

Spanish is the fourth most spoken language globally, with 548 million speakers, as highlighted in ImagenMIA, a PhotoAI clone specifically for the Spanish market.

The service also includes UTM tracking links in its tweets, like this:

These links help the team track traffic and identify which tweets perform best.

The Story Behind Translate Mom

The creator of Translate Mom, Monta Kaoh, shared the origin of the idea.

He explained, “I was playing around with Whisper and used it to translate some Chinese cooking videos. I realized it could be useful to others, so I worked on making it easy to use... so easy my mom could use it (hence the name)”

Early Growth Strategies

In the beginning, Monta promoted Translate Mom on Reddit and SaaS directories. While these efforts helped, much of the growth came organically through X.

For example, when the account was shadowbanned, traffic to the site dropped significantly.

You can find many of the viral videos that boosted the service by searching for "from:TranslateMom min_faves:100" on X. This shows posts with at least 100 likes from the @TranslateMom account.

The service also attracts a highly diverse audience due to the nature of the product.

But it has insane traffic growth.

Translate Mom isn’t the only tool leveraging X for growth. Other examples include:

• Ez Dubs: A tool for dubbing videos in minutes, using the original speaker’s voice.

Since Translate Mom’s usage can be sporadic, Monta found a way to boost revenue by offering a lifetime deal.

Following advice from Marc Lou, he sold the product with limits (2,000 minutes of transcriptions/translations per month) for a one-time fee of $269.

This led to his best sales day.

Translate Mom’s success lies in its simplicity and relevance. The service taps into organic engagement and expands its reach by making it easy for users to tag and translate viral content. This strategy combined with smart tracking and refinement creates a strong foundation for sustainable growth.
